Scott A. Dollar
Sergeant First Class
TN Army National Guard

Scott Dollar joined the Military in 1990 while he was a junior in high school. He graduated Summertown High School in 1991. He’s been an Active Duty soldier since 1997, and thoroughly enjoys being a soldier and always finds fulfillment in it.

Scott grew up on traditional country music. His heaviest influences include Don Williams, Merle Haggard, Ronnie Milsap, Marty Robbins and John Conlee. Other influences include Clint Black, Garth Brooks and Tracy Lawrence. "Those guys were on the radio when I was in high school, and shortly thereafter really had a profound impact on me" says Scott.

"I’ve been writing since I was a kid, but have found that it’s very hard for me to complete my work. It’s hard being your worst critic. Most of my stuff ends up scrapped or just never finished. I began writing “Citizen Soldier” while deployed to Germany in 2004. I was stuck and collaborated with a very talented friend of mine, who gave me the chorus. I was excited about the finished product and distributed it to all my National Guard buddies and they loved it. Their interest in my song really inspired me to keep writing. I’m still my own worst critic but still find pleasure in the process."

"I spent a year in Iraq, guarding detainees of war. Being in that environment, away from home, missing loved ones and everything else that is near and dear to your heart really makes you sit yourself down and realign your priorities. I’ve seen young men and women grow up very fast in a short period of time. I’ve seen the effects that being so far from home can have on a person. I still haven’t been able to fully capture those emotions but I’m working on it. To tell that story you have to be sure to give it the kind of respect and attention it deserves."

"Recently I have been reconnected with the love of my life, after 18 years apart, and have found a whole new world of inspiration.  It’s amazing what a healed heart has to say about where it’s been and what it’s been through. Now if I could just find the time."
